Everything is circular, the ronda – the circle in which the ritual of pizzica is perpetuated – and the shape of the tambourine. The pizziche salentine, the traditional music of the Salento, distinguish in three types of dances: the pizzica taranta, the pizzica pizzica, the pizzica scherma. Tambourine is the main instrument: with origins dating back to more than 6,000 years ago, it is a wooden circle where metal bells are inserted, on which a goatskin fixed with glue and nails is stretched.
